New Look & Feel: We're Growing Up
Polished, Professional, and Much Easier to Use
We've gotten by for a long time purely on the value of our tools and our data. We've always built our products with a very specialized and limited market in mind, and we've always taken it on faith that these users knew how to use our tools to get everything they need.
Turns out that we made some bad assumptions.
The trouble is, we haven't ever given enough consideration to other potential customers. Domain names can be complicated, they can be technical, and many people who would benefit from our products have never been able to figure out just what it is we do. That's been our fault—it's our job to make our products understandable, not your job to innately understand. It's taken us some time, but we get that now.
With that in mind, we've redesigned the DomainTools.com website.
Redesign Goals
- Improved Visual Design
Appearance says a lot, and we want to provide a website that makes users comfortable, and that reflects a high degree of professionalism and technical competence. - Better Usability
In the past, our site hasn't ever been known for its ease of use. Well, we're changing that. This redesign introduces a new information architecture and navigation scheme designed as response to user feedback, new language written to help and guide users, and a new focus on consistency in interface elements across products.
- Improved Product Access
We've got a way to go in finishing up the redesign of all our specific products, but you'll notice that products are being rebuilt with you in mind! Our goal is to make our products more accessible, and we're accomplishing that in three ways:
-
1)We're helping users discover what products they may want/need by speaking in terms of user goals and solutions.
-
2)We're making the products themselves more usable, both in terms of the interactions and the presentation of resultant research data.
-
3)We're providing suggestions for related research and more clearly presenting the interplay between products.
-
We've got a lot more to do, but this redesign is a major course correction for us, and an incredible first step. We hope that it makes your experience at DomainTools more pleasant and productive—we'd be thrilled to get your feedback, either way.
