DomainTools API Guide: Legacy API Products

We have consolidated our legacy API's like Name Spinner, Domain Search, and Whois API into a unified API with a RESTful URL structure and both JSON and XML response formats. We encourage all customers who currently access the API at engine.whoisapi.com or domaintools.com/api.xml to upgrade to the new API today. In the near future, all billing, reporting and support will transition exclusively to the new system.

All legacy API products are available in the new API. Some have different names and a slightly different interface but the underlying data remains unchanged. The default format is now JSON, but you can always request an XML format by setting the response_format parameter to xml. Check the documentation for details.

You will need a new access key and a new API account to complete the transition, but you can sample the API immediately using one of the sample queries.
