What is Domain Monitor?
Domain Monitor is a service allowing users to monitor a portfolio of domains. The service alerts you via email to when monitored domains are nearing expiration and when they change status. Domain Monitor lets you keep a watchful eye on your domains...or anyone else's! Expiration dates, status changes - just tell us the domain names you want to monitor and we'll notify you about crucial changes to Whois records on an ongoing basis. This service is able to monitor: .com, .org, ,info, .us, .net and .biz Novice accounts may monitor up to 100 names. Standard accounts may monitor up to 1000 domains and Professional accounts can monitor up to 10,000 domains. A la Carte and Add-ons may be purchased for additional capacity.

Domain Monitor is free to use! Novice Membership holders may monitor up to 100 domains for free. Upgrading your DomainTools membership allows you to monitor even more domains! Standard Membership holders can monitor up to 1,000 domains Professional Membership holders can monitor up to 10,000 domains Novice account holders can purchase additional monitor capacity via our A la Carte option: 1000 domains for $9.95/mo Both Standard and Professional account holders can purchase additional capacity for monitoring of 5000 additional domains for $9.95/mo See the Features & Pricing page for additional details.
Top of page ^What are the advantages of using Domain Monitor?
Some advantages of using Domain Monitor include: To monitor changes to a domain's Whois record. If email notifications are turned on, Domain Monitor will send you alerts when there are changes made to the domain's Whois record, registration status, or any particular monitor you select. To become aware of when a domain you want to purchase is available. You can select to monitor certain preferences that will monitor and alert you of activity that may suggest changes to a domains future availability.

How do I build a portfolio? How do I add domains to my portfolio?
After logging into your DomainTools account, click on the 'Monitor' tab and choose any one of the three 'Domain Monitor' links that are presented to get to that service page. Select a portfolio from the portfolio drop-down box on this page. If you have not yet created a portfolio, click the "add" link, located below the Portfolio drop-down box. Name your portfolio in the space provided and click OK. After a selecting a portfolio, enter the domain name you want to monitor in the space provided and select a DomainTools service from the View drop-down box. Add any comments about the domain and click add. The domain name now appears in the monitor list. Click on the domain to view the designated service.
Top of page ^What do the different Views represent?
When adding a domain to your portfolio, it is important to select a View. This represents the DomainTools service that this tool will monitor. For instance, to monitor the Whois record of a domain, select the Whois view. When the Whois record for the domain is updated, the user will be alerted via email and/or the Domain Monitor web page. View options include Whois, TLD status, Registrar, User Comment or you can create a custom monitor.
Top of page ^How do I turn email alerts off? on?
To turn email alerts on or off:
- Log in to your DomainTools account.
- Go to Domain Monitor in the Monitor section of DomainTools.
- From here, click the Change Settings tab. By default, domain monitor email alerts are turned on. To turn email alerts off, simply change the Email Alerts option to off. The alert option is updated automatically.
You can return to this page and change the email alert option at any time.
Top of page ^I have a large domain portfolio. How do I change my monitor limit?
Our membership options make it easier then ever to add monitoring capacity to your user account. Novice account members are allowed to monitor up to 100 domain names. The Novice account holder can choose to purchase additional A la Carte domain monitor capacity in bundles of 1,000, or they can upgrade to the Standard or Professional levels. Standard account holders are provided with 1000 names and Professional accounts 10,000 names. Established Standard and Professional account holders can purchase Add-on capacity for domain monitor in bundles of 5,000. Simply log in to your DomainTools account and click your 'My Account' tab and choose any of the upgrade links to increase capacity. You can also click the 'Buy' link that is presented in the ' Included Products/Services' area of the Summary' tab on the 'My Account' information page.

Support and FAQ
Can I export a list of domains I am currently monitoring to a .CSV file?
You may export a list of monitored domains by Portfolio.
- Select the Portfolio you wish to export to a CSV file from the Portfolio drop-down box on the Domain Monitor page.
- Click the export link, located directly beneath the drop-down box. A pop-up box appears.
- Select Save File and click OK. The content of your portfolio's monitoring is now available as a .CSV file on your computer.
What TLD's are supported by this tool?
Domain Monitor currently supports .COM, .ORG, .NET, .INFO, .BIZ, and .US domains. The governing authorities for most ccTLDs do not provide us with the capacity to monitor their domains names therefore you should note that you cannot add such domains to the monitor service.
Top of page ^What do I do if I notice there are changes to my domain record that I didn't authorize?
If there are unauthorized changes to your domain's Whois record, you must contact your domain Registrar. DomainTools cannot update or change information in Whois records; we are simply a third-party provider of this information and have no authority or access to make changes.
Top of page ^Can I monitor domains that I don't own?
Yes. Domain Monitor allows you to monitor any current, deleted or expired domain name, whether you own it or not.
