Answer:
With the Registrant Monitor tool, you can monitor when changes to a domain’s Whois record occur. To use this tool, enter a search term(s) (name, address, email address) into the Registrant Monitor search box, and enter any terms you wish to exclude; an email is sent to your email address when a change occurs to the Whois record of domains matching that search term(s). This may be helpful in the following instances:
Phishing and Typo-squatting sites: By using DomainTools’ Domain Typo Generator, you are able to search for people who may be stealing traffic from your site. Add the registrants name to your Registrant Alert list and you will be notified as soon as the squatter registers a new domain name.
Corporate Monitoring: Use Registrant Alert to monitor a particular company or organization. Keep track of what properties a company is buying, new products they may release, and domains they’ve acquired through arbitration. You will also be alerted when the registrant privatizes records, changes addresses, transfers to a shell company, or sells or purchases a domain name.
Personal Monitoring: Protect your domains by monitoring your email address or name and address. Alerts will be sent out when you get a new domain name, when someone registers a domain name on your behalf, or when someone uses your name to register domains. Also, you will receive an alert when your domain’s ownership is changed, which may be evidence of possible domain theft.
Local Domain Registrations: Monitor local registrations using postal code or city name. For example, if you create an alert for “90210”, you will receive alerts when new domains are registered to registrants in Beverly Hills. This may allow you to track new start-up companies in a particular local, or businesses that may be expanding their online presences.
