Question:

Why do some Whois fields say “Withheld by GoDaddy” instead of providing the information that used to be available?

Answer:

Why do some Whois fields say “Withheld by GoDaddy” instead of providing the information that used to be available?

Beginning January 25, 2018, GoDaddy began redacting certain registrant personally identifiable information (PII) for Whois lookups done via its Port 43 Whois server. This has affected DomainTools’ ability to provide registrant details. This change only affects .com and .net (and some smaller TLDs such as .tv, .cc, and .jobs) domains that are registered at GoDaddy. Please note that Registrant Organization, Create Date and Nameserver data fields are still available.
When this data is redacted, we recommend that customers leverage our other extensive data sets such as IP address, Nameserver IP, Web server information, Risk Score, and screenshots. For Iris users, there are additional data points such as advertising/tracking codes, SSL certificates, redirect domains, SOA and related DNS records, ASN, and more.
